Abstract

The situation of food and nutrition in Thailand has changed tremendously over the past two decades, resulting in modifications of health status among Thai people. Illnesses such as obesity and non-communicable diseases have risen, placing them among the leading illnesses while sickness from unsafe food is still observable. More and more efforts have been put into addressing the diet-related problems. However, there is a lack of data that can indicate whether past operations have been carried out in accordance with international standards. In addition, information on the roles and responsibilities of organizations concerned with food and nutrition as well as information pertinent to the implementation of past policies, which are important for the formulation of future policies, are needed. This report “Thailand Food and Nutrition: Where Are We Now?” serves as a database of the review and compilation of the aforementioned situations to be used for planning and improving food and nutrition policies as well as for furthering the academic knowledge on the area of food and nutrition. The report consists of four chapters: Chapter One: The Situation of Food and Nutrition; Chapter Two: Measures for Prevention and Control; Chapter Three: Roles and Responsibilities of Organizations for Food and Nutrition; and Chapter Four: Information Systems for Food and Nutrition, each of which presents information on nutrition, food safety, and food security.
